Can We Achieve Economic Philanthropy?
Brief
According to a CitiBank report issued in 2021, the stock of philanthropy equates to just under 3% of global GDP (about $2.3 trillion). In advanced economies, adjusted value is 10% or even higher. How can the scale of these contributions be better exposed and addressed? Can the world’s greatest challenges indeed be better overcome through partnership between the public, private, and charity sectors? Can philanthropy generate a multiplier effect? Can the benefits of the sector’s economic value offer downstream value? During this panel, we hear from Gilles Carbonnier, Vice-President, International Committee of the Red Cross and H.E. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Executive Director, UN-Habitat on the significance of philanthropy and development in serving and expanding the economy.
