23 ministerial meetings establish WGS 2024 as an ideal platform for major transformations
The World Governments Summit (WGS) has established its status as a major global platform for outlining and shaping future government direction through ongoing accomplishments evident in quality outcomes. After 11 years of success, the Summit has become a key global benchmark that goes beyond conceptualisation and creative ideas to establishing applicable frameworks and practices. This has made it the ideal and most effective platform to host Arab and international ministerial meetings, as well as interactive government workshops, to agree on shared direction, build partnerships, and collaborate on accelerating progress and implementing best practices to improve quality of life.
The World Governments Summit 2024, held in Dubai between 12th and 14th February, is set to host more than 23 regional and international ministerial meetings, government workshops and roundtables. Over 300 ministers from governments around the world, as well as representatives of international organisations, will take part in these meetings to discuss pressing issues that address challenges and opportunities in key sectors of direct impact on communities. These meetings cover social economic and commercial issues, technological advancements, energy, climate, food and water security, education, health and other sectors.
Hosting these meetings and roundtables at the World Governments Summit meets the ambitions and direction of global governments, seeking dialogue and joint efforts to effectively address future challenges, improve government efficiency, resilience and preparedness. The largest of its kind globally for leaders, governments, experts and businesses, the Summit facilitates knowledge sharing, allows all participants to keep pace with major shifts and trends in key sectors and offers a precious opportunity for governments to forge impactful partnerships that benefit their communities.
The World Governments Summit agenda includes 11 ministerial meetings and government workshops including the meeting of Arab finance ministers in the presence of the President of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and President of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), as financial policies constitute a main pillar for sustainable economic growth and development in the region. The Summit will also host a meeting of energy ministers to discuss the future of hydrogen energy; a pressing matter in light of the need to accelerate the switch to clean energy and growing climate risks. The Summit will host a meeting for Arab youth and sports ministers.
A special ministerial meeting will discuss the next generation of future governments, while another meeting will bring together ministers involved in matters of sustainable development. The Government of Brazil will be hosting a ministerial meeting as part of the WGS to discuss its digital transformation strategy.
Ministerial workshops held during the Summit include one addressing best practices in food and water security, held in collaboration with the World Bank, and another workshop organised by the US Department of Commerce.
The World Governments Summit will host 12 roundtables held under over 15 forums, discussing the future of the most vital sectors, including the future of human resources, geotechnology (Governance of Geotechnology Forum), higher education (the Future of Education Forum), and the future of Mobility Forum.
A particular roundtable will discuss building responsible governments in the age of Artificial Intelligence. Another, hosting a group of top Nobel laureates will discuss the future of science and scientific discoveries. Other meetings include a high-profile meeting of city mayors, and another on the future of nuclear energy, in the presence of the President of the Nuclear Energy Agency.
Economic sector matters will be addressed at roundtable meetings discussing family business governance, the future of aviation and the future of emerging economies, while a high-profile meeting will bring together financial audit and anti corruption bodies.
This year’s agenda reflects the special importance of issues and themes discussed at the World Governments Summit, and the key impact of its outcomes on vital sectors. It also shows that governments are keen to attend and actively take part in an event that has become a major forum to drive progress, and foster cooperation. International governments hosting their local ministerial meetings at the World Governments Summit is testament to the world’s confidence in its impact, and the growing importance of its role.
