Privacy expert Bruce Schneier told delegates at Day One of the 2017 World Government Summit that the current generation will be judged on the way they deal with the handling of data created by smartphone and internet use.

Privacy expert Bruce Schneier told delegates at Day One of the 2017 World Government Summit that the current generation will be judged on the way they deal with the handling of data created by smartphone and internet use.

 

“We would never allow the government to track us 24/7 but we put [mobile phones] in our pockets and walk around with them every day, that do just that,” he said.

 

It is important that the current generation created clarity between what harvested data can be used for and that there was a quality control, he said.  

 

“It matters for reasons of political liberty and justice… The applications where it is good enough for advertising might not be good enough for arresting someone, or for dropping a drone on their house."
