A Digital World And The Benefit For All People
Brief

Mr.John Chambers, executive chairman of CISCO Systems, gave a session titled “A Digital World and the Benefit for All People”. In the session he discussed how CISCO’s goal has been focused on the digitization of the world.

Chambers began the session by explaining how it is necessary to retrain the workforce and youth of all nations in order to change the current standard of living. He then went on to explain how the impact of digitization will be larger than the impact of the internet. Furthermore, countries and companies that fail to reinvent themselves, especially at the very top of an organization by planning linearly instead of exponentially will fail. On the other hand, countries that succeed at digitization will see a vast increase in job growth, inclusion, education, healthcare, innovation, smart cities, and security. Chambers stressed that the UAE can be a role model though digitization not only in the Middle East but in the whole world. However, he emphasized that all countries can have their own localized digitization plan to suit their needs. Moreover he underscored that the best time for peace in the Middle East is now, because by taking advantage of the digitization it can help stabilize the Middle East and lead to long lasting peace. He also mentioned that the top five technology trends of 2017 are the internet of things, AI and automation, the rise of synthetic food, the physical and digital will blur, and most importantly 3D printing for all.

To conclude, the speaker said in order for governments and organizations to become digitized they will need to invest in technology, processes and innovation. Furthermore, they will need to foster organizations along with the culture that encourage starts-ups, speed up the process of innovation, along with outlining a vision of what is possible and achieving that.
