Connecting the Human Brain to Artificial Intelligence

Brief

Brain-computer interfaces enable direct communication between the human brain and artificial intelligence. The human brain is both biological and electrical in nature. When biological brain signals are converted into digital bits, the resulting data can be used to enable instantaneous communication between the human brain and high-powered computing systems. These systems represent an emerging technology sector that is poised to impact medicine and society in profound ways. This session, led by Benjamin Rapoport, a neurosurgeon and electrical engineer, will summarize the current state of the most advanced brain-computer interfaces. Drawing from his personal experience in the field, he will address the outlook for technological advances in the next 5 years. The session will also explore implications of brain-computer interface technologies for several areas of medicine, technology, and society.
