Mayor Gleam Davis joined the City Council in February 2009 when the Council selected her to fill the seat left vacant by the passing of Herb Katz and was elected to an additional two-year term in November 2010. She was re-elected in 2012 for a 4-year term, and again in 2016. At the time of her appointment, Gleam was a member of the Santa Monica Planning Commission and was the Co-Chair of Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights. Davis was elected to the position of Mayor Pro Tempore from 2016 to 2018. Currently, Gleam Davis is serving as Mayor. Gleam has been active in the community since she moved to Santa Monica in 1986. Gleam began her public service as a member of the Board of Directors of WISE Senior Services. Since then, she has chaired numerous organizations including the Santa Monica Child Care and Early Education Task Force and the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District’s Facilities Bond Advisory Committee. She also served on the Community for Excellent Public Schools (CEPS) Steering Committee and helped found LEAD (Leadership, Effectiveness, Accountability, Direction for Santa Monica-Malibu Public Schools).
As a Councilmember, she continues to advocate for the character, livability, sustainability, and safety of Santa Monica’s neighborhoods. She also maintains her strong commitment to lifelong learning, educational opportunity and community wellbeing.
Gleam is corporate counsel for AT&T and supervises all of its litigation in the Los Angeles area. Gleam graduated from Harvard Law School in 1981 and from USC in 1978. She was born in Los Angeles and grew up in San Gabriel and Arcadia. Gleam and her husband, John Prindle, have one son, Jackson.
