Arie W. Kruglanski is a Distinguished University Professor at the University of Maryland, and a founding Co-Director of the Center for the Study of Terrorism and the Response to Terrorism at the University of Maryland. He also served as President of the Society for the Study of Motivation. He recently served as a panelist on the National Academy of Science panels on counterterrorism, and educational paradigms in homeland security. Kruglanski is now a PI on 5-year MINERVA grant to study violent extremism in the Middle East and Asia. He has written numerous articles on these topics based on his research in various world locations. He also developed tools for risk assessment for violent extremism and a model for understanding the psychology of radicalization.  Professor Kruglanski is recipient of numerous scientific awards including he National Institute of Mental Health Research Scientist Award, the Senior Humboldt Award, the Donald Campbell Award for Outstanding Contributions to Social Psychology from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, and the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from the Society of Experimental Social Psychology.
