Fadlo R. Khuri, MD, the 16th president of the American University of Beirut, assumed office in 2015.
He previously held leadership positions at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. These included professor and chairman of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, the Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research, deputy director for the Winship Cancer Institute, and the executive associate dean for research.
Following a year of study at AUB (1981-82), Khuri earned his undergraduate degree at Yale University in New Haven, and his MD at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York.
He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Boston City Hospital.
Before joining Emory University in 2003, Khuri was on the faculty at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for seven years.
He has published over 300 peer reviewed articles, and his work has been cited over 16,000 times. Khuri’s work has been recognized with several major awards.
